Creating frames from layers in ImageReady

1.

Switch to ImageReady and open the file flower_frames.psd that has just been saved in the Lesson06 folder. In the Layers palette, you will recognize the eight layers, converted to layer sets, arranged in the same way as in the original Illustrator file.

2.

Open the Animation palette (Window > Animation), and choose Make Frames From Layers from the palette menu.

ImageReady will create nine frames, one for each layer (there are two layers in the Layer 8 layer set, one for the text and one for the blue rectangle).

3.

In the Layers palette, click the triangle next to the name of each layer set to fully expand the layers view. Then, in the Animation palette, select each frame in turn, and note how the visibility of the layers changes. In frame one, only the layer of the Layer 1 layer set is visible, while frame two shows only the layer of the Layer 2 layer set, etc. In frame eight, only the blue rectangle layer of the Layer 8 layer set is visible, and frame nine shows only the text layer of the Layer 8 layer set.

To create an animation effect, ImageReady simply sets the visibility to display only one layer per frame.

4.

Click the Play button at the bottom of the Animation palette to display the animation in the document window. The Play button will become the Stop button. When done previewing the Animation, click the Stop button.

This gives only a rough idea of how the animation might look like in the end. Continuing to tweak the animation using ImageReady's Animation and Layers palettes can be fun. To be able to preview the animation in a Web browser later in this lesson, you should have a default browser specified.

5.

Choose File > Preview In > Edit Browser List. If the list is empty, you haven't selected a default browser yet. To do so, click Add in the Edit Browser List dialog box, and then navigate in the Preview in Other Browser dialog box to the folder containing your Web browser application. Select the Web browser application and click Open. You can add more than one Web browser application to the list. When done, select your preferred Web browser application in the Edit Browser List and click Set As Default, then click OK.
