Adding a new button to the navigation bar

The file will be opened in ImageReady. You need to add a button to the right of the existing buttons. To set the newsletter section apart from the other sections of the Web site, place the button flush right with the end of the creative solutions text in the upper part of the image. The color of the button will be Basics purple, with an RGB value of 191, 131, 185.

1.

In the Color palette, select RGB sliders from the palette menu. Then enter RGB values of 191, 131, and 185 to set the foreground color to Basics purple.

2.

In the toolbox, select the Tab Rectangle tool. Then, in the Options palette, select Create new shape layer, deselect Fixed Size, and set the Corner Radius to 10 px (pixels).

A. Create New Shape Layer. B. No Fixed Size.

3.

Position the pointer at the horizontal guide, 140 pixels from the top, and about 450 pixels from the left. Choose Ctrl-R (Windows) or Command-R (Mac OS) to turn on the Rulers if they are not visible already. Then, click and drag to a position 560 pixels from the left and to the bottom edge of the image. Release the pointer when ImageReady displays a guide indicating that the right edge of the rectangle is flush with the end of the text "creative solutions." (See illustration on next page.)

In the Layers palette, notice that a new layer has been added to the document. (Should the new layer not already be located at the top of the list in the Layers palette, click the layer and drag it to the topmost position in the list.)

4.

In the Web Content palette, select the Normal state for the webbanner_contact slice. Then, in the Layers palette, select the contact text layer, just underneath the newly created layer. (If the Over state was selected in the Web Content palette, the contact text layer would have the color overlay layer effect applied, and you don't want to copy that in the next step.)

5.

In the Layers palette, select Duplicate Layer from the palette menu. Click the resulting contact copy text layer, and drag it to the top of the list, above the shape layer containing the Basics purple rounded rectangle.

6.

With the contact copy layer still selected in the Layers palette, select the Move tool in the toolbox, and then use the right arrow key repeatedly to move the text object (use the arrow key in combination with the Shift key for bigger jumps) until the copy of the contact text becomes visible over the purple rounded rectangle in the document window.

7.

Select the Type tool in the toolbox. Double-click the word contact above the purple rounded rectangle to select it. Type newsletter, then select the Move tool, and use the left and right arrow keys to recenter the word in the button shape.
