Inserting stories as Smart Text Components

1.

In the package window, click the first column of the main story to select it. Then, choose Insert As Smart Component, for the Story text in the Inspector palette. Use the same external style sheet that was used for the headline text.

5.

In the nl_new177 document window, click anywhere inside the text frame of the main story. You will not be able to place an insertion pointer (Smart Components are not editable directly in GoLive), but the Inspector palette will offer a Crop Text button. (See illustration on next page.)

6.

In the Inspector palette, click the Crop Text button. The Main toolbar will enable you to specify how to crop the text.

A. Crop by Characters, Words, Paragraphs, or Custom Breaks. B. Enter start of selection. C. Enter end of selection. D. Remove any existing cropping information. E. Cancel and exit the crop mode. F. Accept the currently specified cropping, and exit the crop mode.

7.

A good way to crop the story text is by Paragraphs. Select Paragraphs from the Crop Text pop-up menu in the Main toolbar. Enter 1 as start and 2 as end of selection (i.e. crop from first to second paragraph inclusively). Click the check mark icon in the Main toolbar to accept the cropping, and to exit the crop mode.

If the remaining text of the story should appear in another text frame, a second Smart Component could be created from the same story in the package window, with the text cropped from the third to the last paragraph.

If the story text later gets edited in InDesign, and repackaged for GoLive, Smart Components that are dependent on the package will get updated in GoLive, preserving the customized cropping (and style sheet) settings.
