Creating Favorites folders in Bridge

Adobe Creative Suite 2 software ships with Bridge, a new component that serves as the central hub connecting all the applications of the suite. Bridge enables you to browse and preview files on your hard disk, flag files, search for files in various ways, perform batch processes, and much more. Bridge is also the control center for features affecting all other applications in the suite, like the creation of Favorites folders and the selection of color profiles.

As a first step in this lesson, you will use Bridge to copy files from the Adobe Creative Suite 2 Classroom in a Book CD to your hard disk.

1.

Start Adobe Bridge.

By default, a list of Favorites is displayed on the left side of the Adobe Bridge window.

2.

Select My Computer (Windows) or Computer (Mac OS) in the Favorites list.

The content of the selected folder will appear in the large pane on the right. By double-clicking a folder in that pane, you can navigate down one level in the folder hierarchy. Double-clicking a file will open it in the default application, while double-clicking an application icon will launch that application. But, Bridge has more to offer than just the behavior intuitively expected from a file browser.

3.

Navigate down through the folder hierarchy until you see the contents of the folder in which your documents are usually stored. On Windows, that might be the folder My Computer\Local Disk (C:)\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents and on Macintosh, the folder Computer:<harddiskname>:Users:<username>:Documents.

4.

Choose File > New Folder, and name the new folder CS2CIB Lessons.

5.

Click the newly created folder icon, and drag it to the bottom of the Favorites list (or Right-click / Control-click the folder icon, and choose Add to Favorites from the pop-up menu, or select the folder icon and choose File > Add to Favorites).

You've now created a shortcut to the lessons folder that is readily available not only in Bridge, but in all Creative Suite applications.
