Working with Adobe Stock Photos

Bridge is a sophisticated file browser and a control center for managing global features like the selection of color profiles and the creation of Favorites foldersas seen in Lesson 1. Bridge also provides convenient access to a feature called Adobe Stock Photos, which enables you to search for high-quality, royalty-free stock images from some of the world's leading stock image libraries, and download low-resolution comp images for evaluation purpose. A high-resolution version of the image can be purchased directly from within the Adobe CS2 applications.

Note

Adobe Stock Photos is an online service. To browse and purchase images, you require a working Internet connection. Even if there is no working Internet connection at the moment, it is still possible for you to access Previous Searches, Downloaded Comps, and Purchased Images offline.

1.

Start Adobe Bridge.

2.

Click Adobe Stock Photos in the Favorites list on the left.

The main screen that will appear on the right (the picture might look different on your computer, as Adobe Stock Photos gets updated regularly), explains how to take advantage of this feature in the design process. You can see a list of stock photo providers, browse images by categories, and search across all libraries by keywords.

Let's say you need an image of an orange-colored fish for your next project.

3.

Type orange fish in the search field under the Adobe Stock Photos logo. To start the search, press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac OS), or click the magnifying glass icon to the right of the search field.

In an instant, the first 50 results of the search will be displayed as thumbnail images. If there are more results available, they can be appended to the list of thumbnails by clicking the More Results button. The number of results to be returned each search can be specified in the Adobe Stock Photos panel of the Bridge Preferences dialog box.

4.

Select one of the thumbnail images by clicking it. Your images may vary from those shown in the next few steps.

To see a larger preview of the selected image, drag the divider lines between the panes to enlarge the preview pane on the left.

5.

Click the Get Price & Keywords button at the top of the search results pane.

Note

The first time you try to get price and keyword information, you will be prompted to select the billing country so that the prices can be listed in the local currency. Choose the country name from the pop-up menu, and then click Continue.

The images are generally available in various sizes, at different price points, the higher the resolution the higher the price. Low-resolution comp images can be downloaded for free. This will enable you to compare different comp images in the document before making a purchase decision.

If desired, you can search for more images using the same, or a subset of, the keywords associated with this image.

6.

For now, just close the Get Price & Keywords dialog box by clicking Close.

Next to the Get Price & Keywords button, at the top of the search results pane, there are two more buttons, labeled Download Comp and Add to Cart. These buttons enable you to directly download a comp image, or add the image to your shopping cart. The desired image size can be selected when you review the shopping cart before proceeding to the check out.

7.

Click the Download Comp button next to the Get Price & Keywords information button. You may select for this dialog box not to come up in future.

8.

Click the View Downloaded Comps button, or Click OK, and then select Downloaded Comps under Adobe Stock Photos in the Favorites list. The selected image will show up in the right pane.

In the Movies/Creative Suite 2 folder on the Adobe Creative Suite 2 Classroom in a Book CD, you will find a movie called Bridge & Stock Photos.mov, further explaining the of use Adobe Stock Photos in Bridge.
