Using frame sets

Frames divide the content of a173 page into independent sections. Each frame contains a link (URL) to a separat164 page. Links in a page referenced from one frame can be set to load new content in another frame. In the following steps, you will create a page with the Web banner in the top frame. Clicking the navigation buttons will load the corresponding content in the bottom frame.

1.

In GoLive, save and close all the simple site document and site windows, then open the frameset site.site file, inside the frameset site folder in the Lesson05 folder.

As in the "Using Smart Objects" section, the webbanner.psd file has been added to the SmartObjects folder. A couple of content pages have already been prepared, including an index page that still needs some work.

2.

Double-click the 158 file icon in the Files tab to open it in its own document window.

3.

Click the Frame Editor tab at the top of the window.

4.

From the Frame set of the Objects palette, drag the two rows, variable bottom object onto the page.

5.

In the Change Doctype dialog box, make sure XHTML 1.0 Frameset is selected as New Doctype and then click OK.

You have now created an empty HTML page containing frames. To add content, you will need to establish a link to the pages to be displayed in each frame.
