Typography is an often unappreciated component of a layout's visual style and character. Typefaces have distinct looks that can support or even create the publication's fundamental tone. The spacing of characters can also play a key role in the visual tone, or "color," of typography.
Because fonts come in several formats, it's key to coordinate font usage with service bureaus and internal production departments. Generally speaking, only PostScript fonts should be used for files that will be output at a service bureau or production department. The common TrueType format should be reserved for personal and local documents printed from your own computer, because most professional-class printers and typesetters do not support this format.
