Moving On
There are a couple of FLA examples of photo galleries in the Flash MX 2004 install directory. Look in C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash MX2004\Samples\HelpExamples\gallery (Windows) or HD:Applications:Macro media Flash MX 2004: Samples:HelpExamples: gallery for the FLA files called gallery_tree.fla and gallery_tween.fla. These two examples show you two different ways of constructing a gallery. You must have the Flash MX 2004 7.2 updater installed to access these files. This gallery presents a form of navigation that's different from the other formats you encountered. Instead of navigational buttons, you created interactive rollovers that load new content into movie clips when you click each one. You also created regular buttons that move the playhead to a new frame when you click the button. In the last three chapters, you created interactive effectswhich is what Flash is all about. Some examples of online galleries (at the time of writing) include the following websites:[www.natzke.com][www.thatisthat.com/gallery/][www.airtightinteractive.com/photos/][www.seabiscuitmovie.com] Galleries vary widely in appearance, in organization, but also in the way they function and are built. You might create galleries that are not dynamic, or ones that store the information in XML so the documents are very easily updatable. You might even create a small gallery that contains all the content inside a single SWF file. Whatever way you choose to create a gallery, you can use Flash to make it original using tweens, masks, and creative graphics.
