Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP)
This is the Internet protocol used for booting diskless workstations. Among its functions, BOOTP:
- Discovers its own IP address
- Discovers the IP addresses of BOOTP servers on the network
- Locates a file to be loaded into memory to boot the computer
- Enables workstations to boot without a hard drive
The protocol is defined by RFC 951.BOOTP can be configured in Network preferences.
