File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
FTP is a simple but unsecure way to transfer files across a network; sFTP is the secure version of the protocol.FTP uses TCP for reliable delivery of information.FTP employs login and password to authorize access to folders and files on a remote FTP server, but it transmits data in the clear, and is therefore insecure.FTP can be enabled by turning on FTP Access in the Services pane of Sharing preferences. Users wishing to log in must have local user accounts.After choosing Go > Connect to Server in the Finder to access an FTP server, users can see all files on the hard disk, even if they don't have permission to change /image/library/english/13769_folders outside of shared folders.
