Sending Connection Keys to Contribute Users
After you set up connections to Web sites, you can distribute site connection information to the designated Contribute users. Contribute embeds such information in a connection key, which includes and encrypts password, network, and/or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) log-in information. You can email the connection key (with the file extension .stc) to the appropriate users, or save it onto the network for users to download. All the user has to do is double-click the connection key file, and Contribute will start up and import the connection automatically. In this section, you'll learn how to create and send the connection key to the dante site's Contribute administrator. For the sake of this book, you will role-play both administrator and end-user, so that you can work through the entire process of sending and receiving keys as well as editing a page in Contribute. In a normal workflow, of course, you may decide to opt out of either or both of these roles, depending on your team's needs.
1. | With the Administer Web site window open, click the Send Connection Key button. |
This button opens the Send Connection Key Wizard (Windows) or Export Connection Key Assistant (Macintosh).[View full size image]

2. | Accept the default setting to send the current connection settings to the user, and click Next. |
The step confirms that the connection key is issued and sent to the user.

3. | In the Role Information window of the Connection Key Wizard, select Administrator as the user role. Click Next. |
This confirms the designated user as a Contribute site administrator.

4. | In the Connection Key Information window of the Connection Key Wizard, select Send in email to export the connection key file. In addition, enter a password for Contribute to use to encrypt the connection key. Click Next to advance to the Summary window. |
Because Contribute will prompt your users for the password before they import the connection key, you'll need to write down the password you enter in this screen and give it to your users.NoteDo not include the password in the email message, because that would defeat the purpose of password-protecting the connection key! Anyone with this key and its password becomes a full administrator of your Web site. Send the connection key using a different medium, such as a hand-written note or a phone call. Before you click the Done button, carefully verify the settings in the Summary page. Contribute now creates a new connection key for the user, assigning him the role of administrator.

Your e-mail client sends the message with the connection key attachment to the user (that is, you; check your email to make sure it arrived).[View full size image]

6. | Close the Administer Web site window. Contribute prompts you to enter a password for the administrator. Enter a password, which should be different from the one the user will receive. |
This completes the process of creating and sending the connection key to the Contribute user.
