Note that you can insert transitions on any track and on single clips, not just between clips. For example, I almost always apply a cross dissolve transition to dissolve into and out of titles.

Premiere Elements offers several types of dissolves, including the Dip to Black dissolve that fades briefly to black, which is a great effect to use for major scene changes in your movie.

If you need to drag the Work area bar to render a different region on the timeline, you can either grab it on the three faint lines in the center of the bar, or press Alt on your keyboard and grab it anywhere.

When you render your transition, Premiere Elements produces the effect and saves the result as a file on disk. After rendering, the red line turns to green.

Get familiar with these rendering skills, since you'll often use them when applying effects.
