In the last three chapters, you've come a long way toward total dominance over your game's sound effects. This chapter will further that dominance by showing you a few different ways to get wave files off your drive and into DirectMusic.


ANATOMY OF A WAV FILE


Wave files are not as simple as you might think, and although DirectMusic takes care of the complexities for you, you never know when you're going to be outside of Microsoft's umbrella, and doing things yourself.

So, here's a quick look at the WAV file format. For a more detailed analysis, consult one of the links I've provided on your CD, or, for a quick byte-by-byte map of the file, look at Figure 4.1.
