Tafsīr-e
Qummi
This exegesis (Tafsīr) of the holy Qurān is attributed to Abul-Hasan, Ali son of
Ibrāhīm, son of Hāshim Qummi, one of the great Shi'a narrators during 3rd
and 4th Islamic centuries, who has been one of the disciples of Imām
Hasan Askarī (A.S.).
He
is one of the most reliable mentors of Sheikh-e Kuleini, and Kuleini in his book
Kāfī', has narrated most of his narrations from him.
Theme of the book:
This exegesis is one of the oldest commentaries
on the holy Qurān, which illustrated the secret meaning of many verses that have
been revealed to define the lofty position of infallible household of the holy
prophet of Islām (Ahl-e Bayt-e Ismat wa Tahārat A.S.).
Value:
The book (Tafsīr-e Qummi) holds a great value and
reliability among Shi'a commentators, and Ulamā (Scholars) evaluate the
authenticity of other commentaries that are based on narrations (Tafāsīr-e
Rawāyī), by comparing them with this book.
Specifications:
1-All
narrations in this book have been narrated from Imām Muhammad Bāqir and Imām
Ja'far Sādiq (A.S.), and as cited by Allāmah Sheikh Āqā Bozurg in his book
Al-Dharī'ā', "this Tafsīr should be called Tafsīr-us-Sādiqain (a
commentary exposed by the two honorable Imāms, i.e Imām Bāqir & Imām Sādiq
A.S.)".
2- The
compiler of this Tafsīr lived at the era of Imam Hasan Askari (A.S.).
3-
The compiler has narrated most of narrations of this book from
his father, Ibrāhīm the son of Hāshim.
Narrator:
The first transcriber, to whom Ali Ibn-e Ibrāhim dictated this
Tafsīr, was
Abul-Fadhl Abbās
son of Muhammad son of Qāsim son of Hamzah son of Imam Mūsa AL-Kāżim (A.S.). His
name is not mentioned in Rijāl (biographical books), but according to the
confidence that Shi'a Ulamā have on this Tafsīr, one can rely on the
trustworthiness of this great man.
Motivation for writing:
When
Abul-Fadhl Abbāss son of Muhammad (the narrator of this exegesis) went to
Māzandarān province, and saw the ongoing and growing situation of Zaidiyyah
belief, he decided to familiarize the followers of that belief with the
righteous Imām (Imam Ja'far-e Sādiq A.S.), and lofty knowledge and precepts of
Shi'a.
In order to make people of Māzandarān to accept this exegesis, he
started to narrate the commentaries, which Imām Muhammad Bāqir (A.S.) had
dictated it to
Abul-Jārūd (chief of Zaidiyyah sect)
before he was led astray (the same commentaries have been narrated by reliable
narrators of Shi'a).
Sheikh Āqā Bozurg's sayings:
Sheikh Āqā Bozurg Tehrāni cites: "this tafsīr is an everlasting masterpiece
which has been narrated from two infallible Imāms (Imām Muhammad Bāqir (A.S.) by
Abul-Jārūd, and from Imām Ja'far Sādiq (A.S.) by Ali Ibn-e Ibrāhīm Qummi).
