Chapter 4: Building an Example Web Application
In this chapter, we walk through the construction of a realistic example Web application, bigrez.com. Because this book is intended for intermediate- to advanced-level developers and architects, we assume that you understand the basic steps required to construct a J2EE Web application. Our emphasis is on any construction techniques unique to WebLogic Server as well as the components and techniques required for the bigrez.com application resulting from the choice of presentation approach, Web application architecture, and the use of direct interaction with the business-tier components.The construction of the Web application portion of bigrez.com involves the following steps:
Constructing the application skeleton, including master pages, page display servlets, descriptor files, build files, and all required directory structures and configuration files
Identifying and constructing the specific JSP display pages, form beans, and controller components required to implement the user and administration site behaviors
Additional steps are required to construct the necessary business-tier components and related persistence logic. These steps are covered in Chapter 7.
