Chapter 13: Enhancing Application Performance

Overview

A compelling application is one that offers useful functionality in a way that's convenient and, one hopes, pleasurable to work with. The application should be intuitive and simple, requiring only enough user input to fulfill its function. This way, your application will more than reward your users' efforts, and they'll be happy to work with it again. Your application should perform well. No matter how cleverly designed your application is or how good its functionality is, if your application is slow, people won't like it.

In this chapter, we'll examine how to optimize the performance of your applications. We'll look at the programming and configuration techniques you can use to achieve the best performance, and we'll look at how to use Microsoft ASP.NET output caching, fragment caching, and data caching.
