Cache File System (CacheFS)

A file system that acts as a temporary holding area for data located on slow or remote file systems. CacheFS speeds up the performance of your computer if you access network resources or slow CD-ROM drives.




CacheFS packing

Actively placing files into CacheFS to speed up performance, as opposed to waiting for the files to be accessed and then placed into CacheFS.




client

Also called a workstation, a client is a computer on the network that users work from. Clients typically request information from servers.




command-line interface (CLI)

The Solaris software interface in which you type commands in order to execute them.




Common Desktop Environment (CDE)

The default graphical user interface provided with Solaris 9.




core file

A file generated when an application or a process terminates abnormally. Used in troubleshooting.




crash dump
