MTI Support
Windows 2000 introduced a third type of application into its repertoire: the Multiple Top-Level Interface (MTI) application. This is the type of interface favored by Microsoft Office 2000 and Office XP applications. MTI applications are similar to SDI applications, but whereas SDI applications run as separate windows—one instance of the application for every window open—MTI applications have one instance serving all the open windows. When the user creates a new file, the application opens a new independent top-level window and a new document along with them—but they're tied to the same running instance of the application.
