Working with Hidden Slides
You may not always want to show every slide that you have prepared. Often it pays to prepare extra data in anticipation of a question that you think someone might ask, or to hold back certain data unless someone specifically requests it.By hiding a slide, you keep it in reserve without making it a part of the main show. Then, at any time during the presentation when (or if) it becomes appropriate, you can call that slide to the forefront to be displayed. Hiding refers only to whether the slide is a part of the main presentation's flow; it has no effect in any view other than Slide Show.Tip | If you have only a handful of slides to hide, go ahead and hide them, but if you have a large group of related slides to hide, consider creating a custom show for them instead, as discussed later in this chapter. |
The easiest way to hide and unhide slides is in Slide Sorter view because an indicator appears underneath each slide to show whether it is hidden. That way you can easily tell which slides are hidden and which aren't. Alternatively, you can select the desired slides (in Normal or Slide Sorter view) and then right-click them and choose Hide Slide. To hide a single slide or a group, select it (or them) and then click the Hide Slide button on the Slide Sorter toolbar. Repeat to unhide. (It's a toggle.) See Figure 15-6. You can also use the Slide Show⇨Hide Slide command if you prefer. That command works in Normal view too, whereas the Hide Slide button on the toolbar is available only in Slide Sorter view.

To show a hidden slide during the presentation, jump to it using either the Go to Slides command or the All Slides dialog box, covered under Jumping to Specific Slides earlier in the chapter. The hidden slides will have parentheses around their numbers. If you already know the number of the hidden slide, you can simply type the number and press Enter to jump to it. This also works with slides that aren't hidden.Once you have displayed a hidden slide, you can easily go back to it. When you move backwards through the presentation (using Backspace or one of the other shortcuts), any hidden slides that were displayed previously will be included as you scroll back through. However, if you start moving forward again through the presentation, the hidden slide does not reappear, regardless of its previous viewing.
