The Great-Grandmother of All Shortcut Tables
Since its inception, the Photoshop Bible has offered a shortcuts table. But it wasn't until the Photoshop 4 Bible that I decided to really pull out the stops and expand the table from a mere four pages to five times that size and growing. That's also when I gave the table its present name. Table A-1 lists nearly every keystroke and modifier available by default in Photoshop CS.
A few things you should know
I feel compelled to share a few words of advice. First, a shortcut won't make much sense if you aren't familiar with the feature it facilitates. I explain both specific features and their shortcuts in context in other chapters. The intent of this table is to serve as a reference that you can visit and revisit as your knowledge of Photoshop grows. The more you learn, the more useful the table becomes.Second, don't press Shift just because a key combination involves a character that normally requires the Shift key. For example, the shortcut for the Zoom In command is Ctrl+plus (z -plus on the Mac). Technically, + is the Shifted version of =, so a literal person might think you have to press Ctrl+Shift+=. But the literal person would be wrong, as literal people so often are. The plus sign is used because it implies zooming while the equal sign does not. So when you see Ctrl+plus, just press Ctrl+=.
Ready to roll out
So there you have it. You've been briefed, you've been prepped, you've signed all the legal waivers. Now it's time to dive right in and get shortcuts all over you. Throughout the table, operations are listed in the left column. You Windows people will find your shortcuts in the center column. You crazy Macintosh people (crazy like a fox, that is), look to the right column. Incidentally, it's been nice knowing you. This is the last time you'll be hearing from me, so best of luck in there.
