Chapter 15. Protecting Data in Flight Data traveling from network to network can be secured via VPNs and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Data that travels across the internal network must also be secured. VPNs can be configured for this purpose, as can SSL, but other technologies designed specifically for communications between two hosts on the same network or for specific Windows Server 2003 communications can also be used.
