DFSNotes

DFS shared folders don't need to be on WS2003
machines; they can be on downlevel NT or W2K servers or even client
computers running Windows 95 or 98. However, to get the full
advantages of DFS replication, use only WS2003 machines.

Using DFS eliminates the need to map network drives on client
computers, making accessing network resources simpler for users.

If you want to use automatic replication with domain-based DFS, you
must install DFS on NTFS.

You can't replicate between DFS shared folders on a
single machine; the shared folders must be located on different
machines.

DFS-link hierarchies can be only one level deepyou
can't create links beneath links. A workaround is to
target an existing link to a root on a different server, but this
adds complexity.

For details about the integration of DFS with Active Directory, see

Active Directory (O'Reilly).
