Before You Begin
To perform the exercises in this chapter, you need the following hardware and software:
Two Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, servers installed in the tailspintoys.com Active Directory directory service domain. Server01 should be a domain controller, and Server02 should be a member server. Server01 should be multihomed. Local Area Connection on Server01 should be on the same network as Local Area Connection on Server02. Local Area Connection 2 on Server01 simulates an external network and does not need to be connected to anything. If you want, you could use it for your Internet connection.
| Note | If your Active Directory domain is not called tailspintoys.com, there is no need to rename it. Instead, use your domain name rather than tailspintoys.com whenever the latter is mentioned in the chapter exercises. |
Server01 should be an enterprise root certificate authority (CA) server.
Exchange Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, should be installed on both servers. Server01 and Server02 should be back-end and front-end servers, respectively.
A Domain Name System (DNS) server needs to be available. Typically, DNS is installed on the domain controller.
Microsoft Outlook 2003 should be installed on both computers for testing purposes.
At least one computer on your test network needs to be able to access the Internet to download sample virus protection software and definitions.
A modem should be installed on Server01. This is not absolutely essential, but some steps in one of the exercises in Lesson 1 can be performed only if a modem is installed.
