Microsoft .NET Passport authentication

An authentication method that uses web services to authenticate users with a single logon on the Internet. If the credentials are correct, a cookie that contains a valid ticket will be written to the client. The server will check for a cookie that contains a Passport authentication ticket.




Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) v.1.2

A utility that can perform local or remote scans of Windows systems. MBSA runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems and will scan for common system misconfigurations in the following products: Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Internet Information Server (IIS), SQL Server, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Office. MBSA 1.2 will also scan for missing security updates for the following products: Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, IIS, SQL Server, IE, Exchange Server, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), MSXML, Microsoft Virtual Machine, Commerce Server, Content Management Server, BizTalk Server, Host Integration Server, and Microsoft Office. MBSA comes with a graphical version of the utility (MBSA.EXE) and a command-line interface (MBSACLI.EXE) version.




Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (MS-CHAP)

Microsoft’s version of CHAP. It uses the MD4 algorithm for the hash and the Data Encryption Standard (DES) encryption algorithm to generate the hash. It also provides a mechanism for changing passwords and reporting errors with the authentication process.




Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol Version 2 (MS-CHAPv2)

The protocol released by Microsoft in response to security issues discovered in the MS-CHAP protocol. This is the strongest password protocol supported by Windows Server 2003 for remote access and should be used when smart cards or certificates are not an option.

A server product used to address change and configuration management. It is capable of application deployment, asset management, security patch management, mobile computer configuration, and Windows Management Services Integration.

A web application that helps you to keep your computer up-to-date with patches, drivers, service packs, and other utilities for Windows.
