Fonts & Font Formats
Fonts are typefaces that appear on screen and in printed documents. When they're properly installed, they appear on all Font menus and in font lists.Mac OS X supports several types of fonts:
- Data fork suitcase format (.dfont) stores all information in the data fork of the file, including resources used by Mac OS drawing routines.Microsoft Windows font formats are Windows format font files. These include TrueType fonts (.ttf), TrueType collections (.ttc), and OpenType fonts (.otf).PostScript fonts in Mac OS or Windows format are used primarily for printing. These fonts must be accompanied by corresponding bitmapped font files.Mac OS 9.x and earlier font formats include Mac OS TrueType fonts and bitmapped fonts.
