Dictionary
Dictionary, which is brand new in Mac OS X 10.4, has all the features of a dictionary and thesaurus, without all that paper. Simply type a word or phrase into the search box at the top of Dictionary's window. Dictionary comes up with a list of matches. Double-click the one that interests you to get definitions, pronunciations, and synonyms. You'll never have an excuse to use the wrong word again!
To launch Dictionary
Double-click the Dictionary icon in the Applications folder (Figure 1 ).

1. | Click the Dictionary icon in the Applications folder (Figure 1 ) to select it. |
2. | Choose File > Open, or press ![]() |
The Dictionary and Thesaurus window appears (Figure 52 ).

To look up a word or phrase
1. | Enter the word or phrase you want to look up in the search box at the top of the Dictionary and Thesaurus window. As you type, Dictionary begins displaying a list of matches (Figure 53 ). Figure 53. Dictionary displays a list of words and phrases.![]() |
2. | Double-click the word or phrase that interests you. The window displays dictionary and thesaurus information for that entry (Figure 54 ). Figure 54. Double-clicking a word displays its entry.![]() |
