Copy, Cut, & Paste


The Copy, Cut, and Paste commands enable you to duplicate or move document contents. Text that is copied or cut is placed on the Clipboard, where it can be viewed if desired and pasted into a document.

Tip

    Almost all Mac OS-compatible applications include the Copy, Cut, and Paste commands on the Edit menu. These commands work very much the same in all applications.

To copy text



1.

Select the text that you want to copy (Figure 43 ).

2.

Choose Edit > Copy (Figure 44 ), or press .

The text is copied to the Clipboard so it can be pasted elsewhere. The original remains in the document.


To cut text



1.

Select the text that you want to cut (Figure 43 ).

2.

Choose Edit > Cut (Figure 44 ), or press .

The text is copied to the Clipboard so it can be pasted elsewhere. The original is removed from the document.


To paste Clipboard contents



1.

Position the insertion point where you want the Clipboard contents to appear (Figure 45 ).

2.

Choose Edit > Paste (Figure 44 ), or press .

The Clipboard's contents are pasted into the document (Figure 46 ).

Tip

    The Clipboard contains only the last item that was copied or cut. Using the Paste command, therefore, pastes in the most recently cut or copied selection.
