Chapter 9: Upgrading Forms

After you have deployed a form template and users have begun to create a legacy of form data, it is almost certain that before too long, requirements will change. Users will have thought of improvements to the business process, a big customer will have moved the goalposts, or a standards organization will produce a new version of a critical schema. Some (minor) bugs in your design may even have surfaced.

In this chapter you consider the issues around upgrading your InfoPath application, including:

Changes to the main schema

Modifications to external data sources

XSF upgrade parameters

Review of how InfoPath maintains information about form versions

InfoPath extensions

In fact, much of this section also applies to the development and testing cycle, as you’ll undoubtedly issue series of prototype upgrades as you iterate through the steps of application building. Even if you have had plenty of experience in developing applications, you will find that InfoPath has some specific requirements.
