Overview
Microsoft Windows SharePoint™ Services 2.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 are designed to help you share information both within your organization and over the Internet. When used with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies can provide such services as a central repository for documents, an interactive work environment for collaboration, and an architecture that allows you to separate the Web-hosting processes from the site data–retrieval processes.SharePoint Products and Technologies have been developed to meet the needs of different sizes of teams and organizations:
Windows SharePoint Services is focused on the needs of small or ad hoc workgroups that need an informal means to collaborate and share status on a common group of documents.
Office SharePoint Portal Server is designed for large workgroups with structured processes that need greater management control over their information. Features include formal publishing processes, as well as the ability to search for and aggregate content from multiple data stores and file formats.
