Mapping the Timeline


Each of the examples just discussed (except for drag and drop) will send the video by default to the Name 5 track. This is because that track has been designated, or mapped, to receive all video files. You can determine if this is the case if you see the large V that sits in the first column (Figure 6.61 ) or VA if the "grouped" or Embedded option is selected.

Figure 6.61. The V indicates that this track is mapped for video.

Designating tracks in this way is known as mapping. Mapping tracks can be altered on the fly to suit your workflow.

To map the video track


Do one of the following:

    Figure 6.62 ).

  • Left-click the actual V and drag it up to the column to which you want to map the video (Figure 6.63 ).

Tip

  • If you are using the Insert Grouped option discussed earlier in this chapter, the V will be displayed as VA to indicate that it contains video and audio.
