Publishing Your Site

Now you've done the preliminariesyou're finally ready to publish your site live to the web. Get the champagne ready!

Chapter 4, we discussed how to set up your local and remote sites and how to upload and download files between your local and remote sitesfor the full story of how to publish your site, make a return trip to that chapter.

Remember that you're going to have two versions of your site: one that resides on your computer (the local site), and one that's live on the web (the remote site). Whenever you need to update your site, you do so on the local version and then upload your changes to the remote site.

When you're ready to transfer your site, you'll need to connect to your remote web space. In the Files panel, make sure that the Show menu at the top left is set to the local site that you want to upload. Then, on the toolbar at the top of the Files panel, click the Connects to Remote Host button. Dreamweaver connects to your remote site and displays it on the left side of the Files panel; your local site is displayed on the right.
