Chapter 3. E-Learning Under the Microscope
Key Take-Away Internet learning has offered Cisco quantifiable productivity benefits worth $142 million in one study and a return of $16 for every dollar spent on a particular e-learning program. | An organization owes its employees and, in many cases, its resellers and customers, a compelling vision, quality instruction and performance management, and just and reasonable compensation. The productivity advantages of e-learning result from multiplying the effectiveness of the message. Internet learning, or e-learning, is a delivery process built around the notion that, other things being equal, a connected work force is more informed, motivated, and coordinated as a team. The e-learning process encompasses a host of components that stimulate work-force development; these are discussed in this chapter.A thorough learning process, however, is never a substitute for poor or unresponsive learning content. Subject-matter experts (SMEs) who can offer valuable content and information to make workers more productive will always remain in demand. The effectiveness of how well that content is communicated over an e-learning medium depends, however, on a robust process. |
