Lesson 10. Section 2 ReviewThe lessons in Section 2 addressed two goals: (1) to continue to build familiarity with a set of words for future understanding, use, and development; and (2) to examine relationships among words. Lesson 7 presented words related to communication. Some of the ways that words related to communication can be grouped are as follows: two-way or one-way communication words (exchange or tell) sending or receiving words (say or listen; imply or infer) positive or negative communication words (commend or admonish) asking or answering words (request or respond) focused or wandering communication (delineate or digress) Lesson 8 examined words related to size and amount. One way we looked at them was "in order"in order of size and in order of amount. Words can indicate differences in degreethat is, one word can mean more or less of something than another word. Words related to size and amount often occur in specific contexts. Words related to categories of small, large, many/much, enough, too many/too much, and few/little, with careful regard for their most common uses, were examined in this lesson. In Lesson 9, we explored words related to the concept of importance. Words related to this concept express the order of importance through differences in meaning that may be slight but are significant. Types of importance that were identified included serious (momentous), basic or core (essential), necessary (essential), and primary (eminent, paramount, salient). |
