-ee The suffix -ee is attached to action words to indicate the receiver of the action or the person who undergoes or is affected by an action. Compare the terms in the following examples. employer, employee Ms. Sims, the employer, gave Mr. Roberts a pay increase. The company has six employees working in the mail room.grantor, grantee The grant was given to the grantee last December. The grantor gave them a very large grant.lessor, lessee Mrs. Loras, the lessor, leased her property to the city. The city, the lessee, leased the property from Mrs. Loras. Some words ending in -ee refer to a person described by the term. An absentee is someone who is absent. A devotee is someone who is devoted, as in "a devotee of the opera."
