142 Navigate the Web 143 Search the Web 152 Customize the Browser As you browse the Internet, you might encounter some pages you'd like to keep open so that you can refer to them again, even as you continue to look around. Firefox allows you to display a linked web page in a tabbed window, and to switch from window to window by clicking the window's tab.152 Customize the Browser .
1. | Right-Click and Choose Open Link in New Tab One way you can open a link in a tabbed window is to right-click the link and then choose Open Link in New Tab from the context menu.A tab for the current window and for the new window appear on the Tab bar at the top of the browser window. 2. | OR Ctrl+Click or Middle-Click a Link Another way to open a link in a tabbed window is to press Ctrl and click the link.Assuming that you've enabled the Load middle-clicked URLs in new tabs option on the Tabbed Browsing pane (choose Tools, Options and display the Tabbed Browsing pane to see the options available for tabbed browsing), you can also click a link with the middle button of your mouse (even if the "middle button" is a scroll button) to open that link in a tabbed window. |
3. | OR Drag a Link to Tab Bar If the Tab bar is visible (in other words, you have at least two tabbed windows open), you can drag a link and drop it on an open area of the bar to open that link in a new tabbed window. If you drop the link on an existing tab, the contents of that tabbed window is replaced by the linked page. |
4. | Close a Tabbed Window To close a tabbed window, click its Close button (the X ), or right-click the tab you want to close and choose Close Tab from the context menu. To close all tabs but one, right-click the tab you want to keep open and choose Close Other Tabs from the context menu.When you close multiple tabbed windows, you might see a warning reminding you of what you are doing.
