Because your application has to go through an extra translation layer (the installable ISAM), performance is not nearly as good with ISAM files as it is with native Jet data. It's always best to import ISAM data whenever possible. If it's not possible to import the data, you need to accept the performance that linking offers, or consider linking the best solution to an otherwise unsolvable problem.
