Chapter 19: Supporting New Clients

Overview

Chapter 22, you'll learn how to write device adapters, which are plug-in mobile control components that handle the rendering of markup for a particular control on a particular type of mobile device. In this chapter, you'll come to understand the role of device adapter sets and learn how to use Extensible Markup Language (XML)–based configuration files to map device adapters to mobile controls. You'll also learn how to use the extensible configuration architecture to support new client devices, how device adapter sets are configured, how the correct device adapter set is selected for a device, and how to extend device adapter functionality to support new versions of markup languages. In addition, you'll learn more about the System.Web.Mobile.MobileCapabilities class and how the runtime identifies a client and serves the markup best suited to it.
