J-Codes
A subset of the HCPCS Level II code set with a high-order value of "J" that has been used to identify certain drugs and other items. The final HIPAA transactions and code sets rule states that these J-codes will be dropped from the HCPCS, and that NDC codes will be used to identify the associated pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations (JCAHO)
A healthcare organization that accredits healthcare organizations. In the future, the JCAHO may play a role in certifying these healthcare organizations' compliance with the HIPAA A/S requirements.
Joint Healthcare Information Technology Alliance (JHITA)
A healthcare industry association that represents AHIMA, AMIA, CHIM, CHIME, and HIMSS on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the use of health information technology.
Journaling
The process of logging changes or updates to a database since the last full backup. Journals can be used to recover previous versions of a file before updates were made, or to facilitate disaster recovery, if performed remotely, by applying changes to the last safe backup.
