Dealing with One Major Decision at a Time

Speed thinking usually does not help us think well through our decisions. The more things we try to do simultaneously, and the faster we try to do them, the more likely we will be to do each of the things poorly. Because we live in a fast-paced world, it is difficult to appreciate the importance of taking our time in reasoning through the decisions we face. After making a bad decision, we sometimes say we didn't have enough time to think through the problem. But the problem usually is that we had the time but didn't take the time. In general, the more deliberate our approach to decision-making isthe more time we spend thinking through all the aspects of the problemthe better will be our decisions.
