Configuring Group Policy and Local Security Policy

In this chapter, you will learn how to use the Microsoft Windows 2000 Group Policy and Local Security Policy snap-ins to improve the security on your computer. In Chapter 16, you learned about auditing one of the features that can be controlled either by creating a custom console for Group Policy or by using Local Security Policy. In this chapter, you will learn about configuring the two Account Policies: Password Policy and Account Lockout Policy. And you will learn how to configure some of the available security options.

Before You Begin

To complete this chapter, you must have

• A computer that meets the minimum hardware requirements listed in "Hardware Requirements."
• Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional software installed on the computer.
