Many presenters prefer to assign sounds to clip art or other objects on the slide rather than to use a separate sound icon. That way they still have precise control over when the sound plays, but they don't have to deal with having the icon on the slide.
Although you can assign a sound to any object, including text boxes, most people assign their sounds to graphics. For example, you might attach a sound file of a greeting from your CEO to the CEO's picture.
To assign a sound to an object, use the Action Settings for that object, as follows:
Right-click the object and choose Action Settings. The Action Settings dialog box appears. This is the same one you saw back in Figure 12-4.
Click either the Mouse Click or Mouse Over tab, depending on what you want. Mouse Click will play the sound when you click the object; Mouse Over will play the sound when you point to it with the mouse.
Select the Play Sound checkbox. Then, open the drop-down list (see Figure 12-10) and choose a sound, or choose Other Sound to open the Add Sound dialog box and pick a sound from any location. There are a variety of sounds in C:\Windows\Media, for example.
Click OK to close the dialog box.

Note |
The first time you select a sound from the Play Sound list, you may be prompted to reinsert your Office or PowerPoint CD so PowerPoint can install the needed sound files. Just follow the prompts. |
