expandnew in WS2003

Extracts compressed files from distribution disks.

Syntax

expand [-r] Source Destination
expand -r Source [Destination]
expand -d Source.cab [-f:Files]
expand Source.cab -f:Files Destination

Options

Source

Names of files to extract (can include path and wildcards).

Destination

Where to extract the files to (path). When extracting multiple files without the -r switch, the destination must be a directory.

-d

Displays source files but doesn't extract them.

-f:Files

Specifies files in a cabinet (

.cab ) file that you want to expand (can use wildcards).

-r

Renames files after extracting them.

Examples

Display the compressed files within the

DEPLOY.CAB file in

\SUPPORT\TOOLS on the product CD:

expand D:\SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB -d

\stuff folder on

C : drive:

expand D:\SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB -f:setupmgr.exe C:\stuff

Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Expanding d:\support\tools\deploy.cab to c:\stuff\setupmgr.exe.

Verify the result:

dir c:\stuff
