Chapter 7: User Perspectives on Software Development Failures

Overview

chapters 4 through 6 as contributing to abandoned software development projects.

As indicated above, the role of users in software development has been extensively studied and reported in the software development and chapter 4—is used to examine the views and perceptions of the users group in order to assess the underlying factors or issues that presumably contributed to the "failure" of the systems development effort. I begin with a brief description of the company, followed by an analysis of the users' involvement in the systems development effort. The analysis will focus on a number of specific factors and discuss from the users' perspectives the role they may have had in the project's failure. Finally, I present an interaction model dealing with the roles of all relevant stakeholders involved in a software development project.
