UNII Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure. Refers to IEEE 802.11a standard for operating in the 5-GHz radio band. There are currently three such UNII bands for a total of 300 MHz of spectrum allocated within the United States. Different FCC rules and regulations cover each of the UNII1 through UNII3 bands.
