20.13 SUMMARY

The importance of security goes without saying, except you have to say it often. Constant reminders and validation are two keys to maintain the secure environment of the OpenView domain. The primary domain server has root access to each managed node. When the domain is spread across regions and sometimes continents, the security aspects are even more important and complex. The transmission of the OpenView data and communications between the managed node and the server over short (LAN) or long distance (WAN) networks should raise some issues for the security teams. The data transmitted includes passwords in either compressed or encrypted form depending on how the systems are configured. The flexibility of OpenView to support a number of different security enhancements is an important feature. The OV administrator is responsible for implementing the OV components using the native security built into the product and using the enhanced security add-on modules as required.
