There's another way to install SP2 that requires a little more effort on your part. Not much, mind you, but it isn't as automated at the Automatic Updates procedure. Here's how to install Service Pack 2 with Windows Update:
1. | Click Start, choose All Programs, and then click the Windows Update selection. (If you use the Classic style menu, you should see the Windows Update link at the top of the Start Menu.) |
2. | You'll be taken to the Windows Update Website. Click "Yes" or "Install Now" if you get a security warning from Microsoft Windows Publisher. |
3. | From the Windows Update Website, choose Express Install. (Note that you might be prompted to update the Windows Update software before continuing, in which case you'll have to re-launch the browser to return to the Windows Update Website.) |
4. | In the ensuing dialog box, as shown in Figure 1-6, click Install to start the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard. Figure 1-6. Starting the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup. |
The installation will complete, and you will be prompted to restart your computer.
