If Messenger doesn't sign you in automatically when you go online, you must do so manually. When you're finished using Messenger, sign out.
To open Messenger and sign in:

Choose Start > All Programs > Windows Messenger. or Double-click Messenger's notification-area (system-tray) icon on the taskbar (Figure 15.4 ).

or Choose Start > Run; type msmsgs and then press Enter.

Click the link titled Click Here to Sign In (Figure 15.5 ).

Type your Passport email address and password.

If you don't want to type your password every time you sign in, check Sign Me In Automatically (Figure 15.6 ).

Don't check this box on public PCs or a PC where your user account is shared.

Click OK to go online (Figure 15.7 ).

To sign out: Signing out doesn't break your internet connection or close Messenger. When you sign out, you'll appear offline to others, but you'll still be online.
