Compressing Files and Folders" later in this chapter)
Other destinations, depending on the programs installed
To send an item:
1. In Windows Explorer or on the desktop, select the item(s) that you want to send.
2. Right-click one item; choose Send To; then choose a destination from the submenu (Figure 5.34 ).
Tips
To move an item instead of copying it, hold down Shift when you right-click.
If you perform the same file-management tasks regularly, you can add your own destinations to the Send To menu by adding new shortcuts to your Send To folder (which is hidden by default). Every user on your computer has a separate Send To folder. The destination determines what happens to the item being sent. If the destination is a program, for example, the program is launched with the selected file open. For folder and disk destinations, items are copied.
To add a destination to the Send To menu:
1. Choose Start > My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Documents and Settings >
<your user name> .
If Windows is installed on a drive other than C:, choose that drive instead.
2. If the Send To folder is hidden, choose Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show Hidden Files and Folders.
3. Add the desired shortcuts to the folder (or choose File > New > Shortcut) (Figure 5.35 ).
4. Close the window when you're done adding shortcuts.
