Navigation Tools
Like QuarkXPress, InDesign provides some tools for navigating through your document.
Grabber Hand
Just as in XPress, you can use the Grabber Hand tool (press H) to scroll around a page or even between pages. With the Grabber Hand tool, you may never need to use the scroll bars to move around your document again. While XPress lets you press the Option/Alt key to temporarily activate the Grabber Hand tool, InDesign reserves the Option/Alt key for duplicating objects. So, in InDesign you get the Grabber Hand temporarily by holding down the space bar while using other tools, or holding down the Option/Alt key if you're editing text with the Type tool.
Zoom
Just like its QuarkXPress counterpart, you can use the Zoom tool (press Z) to change the view magnification in your document window. Of course, it's a hassle to select the tool just to change the view, so there are shortcuts for temporarily activating the zoom tool. Like Photoshop and Illustrator, pressing Command/Ctrl-spacebar temporarily activates the Zoom tool. Add Option/Alt key to decrease the page magnification. Also like Illustrator and Photoshop, you can press Command/Ctrl and the plus and minus signs to increase and decrease the magnification.
