Threading

It's easy to link text frames together: With the Selection tool, select a frame and then click its out port. You'll see the loaded text cursor (see Figure 40-2). Then you may either:

  • Drag out a new text frame. InDesign automatically links the current frame to this new frame.

  • Click on another text frame to link the current frame to that one.

If there's a lot of overset text in the first frame, you may also hold down the Option/Alt key to use semi-autoflow or the Shift key to use autoflow, as we described in the previous chapter.

Note that, unlike XPress, you can link two frames together even if they both have text in them. The text from the two frames merges together into a single text story.
